When you think of TV serials, you would by default also start thinking of none other than the queen of TV serials, Ekta Kapoor. That’s her influence on you.

We often come across people who’re constantly complaining about the quality of shows on television. They start with bashing the quintessential Saas-Bhau serials and end up criticizing Ekta Kapoor, for she’s one of the pioneers for introducing them to the Indian television. This once loved format of daily soaps is now getting unattractive because times change.

If you’re one of those people, you may hate TV serials, but Ekta Kapoor deserves all of our respect for all the work she has done. Not only did she establish her Balaji empire on the small screen, but also moved on to films and is now producing shows for the web too.

Although there are many feathers in her cap, here are reasons you should absolutely adore the role model of a woman that Ekta Kapoor is.

1. She changed the landscape of Indian Television

Balaji Telefilms was established in 1994 and Ekta was the founder. Since then, it has constantly produced TV serials that have proven to be path-breaking. The serial Hum Paanch, released in 1995 was the one that brought her success and is still considered an iconic show.

After that, Balaji Telefilms released other TV shows such as, ‘Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki, and ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’ which was the introduction of daily soaps on Indian television. Ekta’s shows catered to the woman in the house and got an instant fan following. Her portrayal of the woman in the shows may have been a little backward, but her own life has always been an inspiration to many young girls trying to make it big in the creative industry.

2. Diversification of business

Balaji Telefilms has a subsidiary- Balaji Motion Pictures. Under this banner, it has produced movies like ‘Ragini MMS’, ‘Shor in the city’ and many others. The subjects of the movies reveal that Ekta has never been afraid of making a bold choice, and does not shy away from controversies. More power to her!

3. Adaption of change

When the audience started rejecting the productions of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta was quick to understand the change. She started her new venture, called ‘ALTBalaji’, which produces web content. It now produces web series’ that caters to the young audience and have been received well so far. The shows are very fresh and are very experimental.

4. And finally, she became a mother!

You obviously wouldn’t have missed the news, but in case you’ve been living under a rock, Ekta recently became a mother through surrogacy. She got blessed with a boy and named him Ravie, after her father Jeetendra. She never married and will raise the baby as a single mother. Her step has broken stereotypes and of course, I applaud her for being so strong!

We may make fun of her content at times, we may find her belief in astrology a tad bit quirky, but when it comes to being an entrepreneur and a creator, we should all be taking notes from her!
