Very near to the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar is a fort which is popular as one of the most haunted places in India. It is so haunted that the Archaeological Society of India approves of its ghostliness and has put up boards warning tourists to stay off-limits post-sunset! The place is cursed by the black magician who fell in love with the princess there but was killed even before he could win her over. The dark spell cast by him dooms the place forever.
2. Delhi Cantonment
Delhi takes pride in being clean and green and so does Delhi Cantt. area. But as beautiful and pleasant it is by the day, it gets as much spine-chilling by the night! The ghost who haunts this place is a female clad in a white saree who seems to be hitching at passing vehicles for a lift. Well, there’s more to it. People who have been kind to her are reported for being missing. The ones who never stopped have seen her run parallel to their windows super speedily.
3. Dumas Beach, Gujarat
Famous as an urban beach along the Arabian coast in Surat, this is a hangout joint frequented by tourists. Keeping aside the beauty, this place is also notorious for its paranormal activities due to which people avoid this place at night. The black sand beach was believed to be used as a burial ground earlier and is the resting place of their souls now. Frightening stories of strange whispers when alone on the beach and people disappearing from their midnight stroll have time and again surfaced, the truth of which is for you to check.
4. Karkardooma Court, New Delhi
A regular court in Delhi which is visited not only by the living but also the dead. The practitioners here have been regularly complaining of alarming paranormal events. Sightings of a shadowy figure and switching on of the computers at night are some of the creepy stories which surface and seem justified seeing the CCTV footages of this place captured at night! No wonder the law and order makers are wary of this building.
5. Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune
Being the legendary Peshwa Bajirao’s royal residence, this place becomes spookiest after the sun sets with some serious supernatural bustle! The edifice, which is known to be an architectural marvel, is a witness to the heroic tales of Bajirao, his incomplete love life and betrayal by his own blood. Believed to be cursed, Shaniwarwada saw one of the bloodiest assassinations in its history when Narayanrao, heir to the Peshwa Dynasty, was murdered brutally. He kept shouting for help while his assassins cut him into pieces. His cries still continue to haunt Shaniwarwada every night.
6. Savoy Hotel, Mussoorie
This luxurious hotel nestled in the queen of the hills was the famous summer resort for European people during British Raj. In the year 1911, Ms. Orme, a spiritualist was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her ghost is believed to have possessed the hotel and walks the hallways at night and makes strange noises in her room. The place suggestive of evil had inspired Agatha Christie to write her first novel!
7. Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad
The city of Nizams is popular for its finger-licking biriyani and having the largest film city in the country! But Ramoji comes with its own share of horror stories. Actors have confessed that they saw ghosts or strange marks on mirrors, the lights kept falling off and the light men were pushed down from the top by some unknown forces. Many of the crew members have been grievously injured due to the havoc wreaked upon them by some menacing power. Seems the film city serves as a great plot for that next horror flick.
8. Fernhill Hotel, Ooty
The horror movie, Raaz, was shot here. The place itself is other-worldly after the occurrence of certain baleful events. Saroj Khan and her crew checked in the hotel once and were kept from dozing off a sweet night’s sleep here due to someone rearranging the furniture on the floor above late at night. Desperate for some rest, the members tried contacting the reception but in vain. The lines seemed dead! On approaching the reception, it was pointed that there was no other floor above their rooms. The haunting events have caused the hotel to shut down permanently.
There is no denying the fact that the world is full of unearthly mysteries and if there is a life, there is an after-life too!
