Have you ever found yourself staring at your laptop screen blankly in the middle of the night and wondering ‘What to watch on Netflix?’ Here’s your answer. If you want to paddle outside the mainstream then these shows are for you. Carefully crafted, creatively exploring other cultures and foreign accents to die for, these shows will keep you on the hook! Here are six international shows you need to watch on Netflix!

1. Money Heist

If you haven’t heard of Money Heist, you’ve been living under a rock. This Spanish series is the most ingenious show to make its appearance on a global scale through the Netflix platform! The central plot is of course to rob a bank. But the man behind the plan has spent years meticulously planning every detail of the heist to perfection. But the executors of the heist are far from perfect. What happens when they botch his plans? Will they be caught? You need to watch and find out. And believe me, once you start, you cannot stop.

2. The Hookup Plan

A boy has broken her heart. She’s been mooning over him and her friends are tired of seeing her make herself miserable. Found yourself in similar territory? Well, they came up with a solution. After all, as Barney Stinson said, the best way to get over someone is to get under someone. And so they hire a hooker for her. You can’t imagine the events that unfold. This French show is entertaining and completely relatable. It’s a nice Saturday afternoon watch when you have nothing to do but Netflix and Chill!

3. House of Flowers

If family drama with a death on the rocks is your choice of poison, you need to watch this Spanish show for some real major twists and turns which will shock you. It starts off harmlessly enough with the drama about the family not accepting their daughter’s American boyfriend. But that soon follows a death and imprisonment, and somewhere along the line a cabaret also becomes central to the plot. Like I said, it’s crazy but it’s a lot of fun. So watch it with a tub of popcorn!

4. Healer

If you’re a Korean drama virgin, there couldn’t be a better series to start with than this one! Action, Romance, thriller, mystery…it has something for everyone. Ji Chang Wook, the hero of the drama is an international heartthrob. He is a man recruited by the elite in society to complete dangerous assignments. But of course, as with all brooding and handsome heroes, he operates alone. But when a certain woman comes into the question, things spiral, changing both their lives forever.

5. 3%

If the dystopian world depicted in the Hunger Games sucked you in, then this series if for you. 3% is grittier, darker and more diverse than the Hunger games trilogy. Instead of the lottery system of competing, here every twenty year old is given the opportunity to live in Paradise. To misquote Game of Thrones, the path is dark and full of terrors. There is no black and white, only grey. By the middle of it all, you won’t know whose side you’re on.

6. Dark

This German thriller will resonate with you if you’re a fan of Stranger Things. A man commits suicide and leaves behind a mysterious note. A child vanishes in a dark and brooding forest. The inhabitants of the town are distraught. Stranger things keep happening and no one knows why. The mystery will keep you glued to the screen. It’s a perfect semi scary fest to binge on with your gals. Sufficiently spooky and entertaining: A perfect recipe for a sleepover.
